1994-96 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

1994,95,96 Chevrolet Caprice Classic stereo removal instructions to help you remove your radio fast!

Radio Removal:
1)Remove the fuse panel on the left side of the dash.
2)Extract (1) 9/32" screw behind the fuse panel.
3)Extract the (2) 9/32" screws from the under the dash panel on the driver's side (not the black wiring access panel)
4)Extract the (2) 9/32" screws from below the ash tray.
5)Extract the (2) 9/32" screws from the top of the instrument panel bezel.
6)Make sure the parking brake is on, then insert the key and turn to the "on" position.
7)Put the vehicle into first or low gear, and tilt the steering column adjustment all the way down and pull outward on the instrument panel bezel.  There are (2) spring clips on the bottom, release and remove the spring clips.
8)Extract the (4) 9/32" screws holding the ash tray, remove the ashtray, unplug the connector for the light.
9)Open the glove box.
10)Starting from the left side of the dash, working below the steering column, pull gently outward to start releasing the spring clips.
11)Work all the way across the dash piece, there are about (8) spring clips total.  The last one will pop out near the glove box.  Remove the dash.
12)Extract the (2) 9/32" screws holding the radio, slide the radio out.
13)Unplug all the connectors and the antenna and remove the radio.

The 2 main things you will need when installing your new stereo is a wiring adapter and a dash kit.

Wiring Adapter

The wiring adapter is a piece which has a plug on one end and wiring sticking out of the other end. The plug connects to the factory wiring, and the wires are connected to the matching color wiring on the new stereo. This allows for connecting a new stereo without having to cut the factory wires.

Stock stereos have varying sizes, and if you just place an aftermarket stereo in the hole left by a stock stereo then there will be gaps around the stereo. The dash kit is a plastic piece which fits into the hole left by the stock stereo and fills in the gaps between the aftermarket stereo and the dash.
