1986-89 Toyota Celica (GT, GTS, Liftback, Sport Coupe)

1986,87,88,89 Toyota Celica stereo removal instructions to help you remove your radio fast!

Radio Removal:
1)Remove ashtray and remove (2) #8 phillips head sheet metal screws from beneath ashtray.
2)Remove (2) #8 phillips head sheet metal screws from each lower side of the radio / console trimpanel.
3)Remove (1) #8 phillips head sheet metal screw from right side of steering column trim (above and to the right of the ignition switch)
4)Remove (2) #8 phillips head sheet metal screws from each upper corner of the radio / console trimpanel.
5)Remove (1) 10mm hex head sheet metal screw from the bottom left side of the glove box.
6)Remove (2) #8 phillips head sheet metal screws from each side of the center console.
7)Open center console door and remove (2) #8 phillips head sheet metal screws from the floor of storagebox.
8)Slide the center console towards the rear of the car and remove.
9)Slide the radio / console trimpanel towards the rear of the car and remove.
10)Remove (4) hex head / phillips screws which secure radio / pocket assembly to dash, slide radio out of dash, disconnect wiring and remove.


The 2 main things you will need when installing your new stereo is a wiring adapter and a dash kit.

Wiring Adapter



The wiring adapter is a piece which has a plug on one end and wiring sticking out of the other end. The plug connects to the factory wiring, and the wires are connected to the matching color wiring on the new stereo. This allows for connecting a new stereo without having to cut the factory wires.

Stock stereos have varying sizes, and if you just place an aftermarket stereo in the hole left by a stock stereo then there will be gaps around the stereo. The dash kit is a plastic piece which fits into the hole left by the stock stereo and fills in the gaps between the aftermarket stereo and the dash.
